Underwriting & Risk Assessment
Understanding policy coverage and motor add-ons is very important for an insurance advisor. Customers often ask, “What does my policy cover?” or “Which add-on should I take?” A good advisor should be able to answer these questions in simple and clear language.
Start by understanding Comprehensive Motor Insurance. Know what Own Damage cover means and how it protects the insured vehicle against covered risks. Also understand that Third-Party Liability is a separate and important part of motor insurance. This basic knowledge helps you explain the policy correctly to customers.
Zero Depreciation Cover is another important add-on. Learn how depreciation can affect claim payments and how this add-on may reduce the impact of depreciation on eligible parts, subject to policy terms and conditions. As an advisor, explain both the benefit and the conditions clearly.
Next, understand Engine Protection Cover. It can provide additional protection for certain engine-related losses that may not be covered under a standard policy, depending on the insurer and policy terms. This can be useful for customers who want wider protection for their vehicle.
Roadside Assistance is another useful add-on. It may help customers when their vehicle breaks down or they face problems such as a flat tyre, battery issue, or need for towing. Explain what services are included and the limits that apply.
Consumable Cover is also important. Items such as engine oil, lubricants, nuts, bolts, grease and other eligible consumables may be covered during an admissible claim, depending on the policy.
As an advisor, do not recommend every add-on to every customer. First understand the customer's vehicle, usage, needs, budget and risk. Then explain the relevant options.
For IC72 preparation, learn each cover carefully. Understand what it covers, why it is useful, when it may apply, and what conditions or exclusions may be involved.
